The Malaysian Current Law Journal is privileged to join Bar Council Malaysia in organising the 3rd Islamic Banking and
Finance Law Conference 2016 (‘IIBFL 2016’).
Islamic Banking and Finance is very much a global phenomenon, having chalked up revenue of more than USD1.5 trillion
worldwide. Indeed, in many jurisdictions, it has leapfrogged the conventional banking in terms of revenue earned or generated.
The stellar growth of the industry, and the burgeoning opportunities that followed, has entailed a myriad of challenges,
expectations, demands and competitions. For the stakeholders and minders of the industry, therefore, understanding,
comprehending and embracing the realities and incidences of Islamic Banking and Finance is a matter of necessity.
The IIBFL 2016 seeks to showcase the dynamics and intricacies of Islamic Banking and Finance as it is being practiced today.
More, it will showcase first-hand the experience of market regulators, leading industry practitioners and prominent legal and
judicial scholars who will, together, take a holistic and critical examination of the relevant laws and policies, practices or
malpractices, strength and weaknesses, opportunities and challenges, and indeed at the whole ecosystem that has thus far
supported and sustained the industry, both in Malaysia and beyond.
This Conference should bear significantly to members of the legal, judicial, banking, finance and corporate sectors. It bears no
repetition too that the knowledge and learning to be gained by the attendees is enormously practical and beneficial.
