seisin (Saisir = to seize.) Feudal concept based on the physical occupation of land, so that an estate in freehold involved a right to seisin. Proof of seisin was required in actions for recovery of land. Seisin in law: seisin possessed by an heir whose ancestor had died seised of the land. Seisin in deed: actual possession of the freehold. |
