post, plea of guilty by

Procedure often used in motoring cases. The prosecutor serves the summons and statement of facts to be placed before the court. The defendant must then inform the clerk that he wishes to plead guilty without appearance. (He may change his mind and appear). The statement of facts read out in court must be exactly the same as that served on the defendant. The hearing is adjourned if the possibility of imprisonment or disqualification (motoring cases) arises.
