petty sessional court or petty session (UK) A court of summary jurisdiction consisting of two or more justices when sitting in a petty sessional court-house, and including the Lord Mayor or any alderman of the City of London, or any salaried magistrate when sitting in any place where he is authorised by law to do alone any act for which two justices are required. They are now called magistrates courts.
