feoffee to uses

A person to whom a feoffment was made to the use of a cestui que use. This vested the legal estate in the feoffee, who held on behalf of the beneficial owner, the cestui que use. The Statute of Uses 1535 turned the use into the legal estate, and the cestui que use therefore became the legal owner. The feoffee to uses henceforth merely served as a conduit pipe, diverting the flow of the legal estate.
