It was an offence under section 4 of the Witchcraft Act 1735 (UK) for any person to pretend to exercise any form of witchcraft, conjuraton, etc., but in this section conjuration was not limited to evil spirits only (R. v. Duncan [1944] K.B. 713): the gist of the offence was in the pretence. The Witchcraft Act 1735 was repealed by the Fraudulent Mediums Act 1951 (UK). |
