International Court of Justice

Principal judicial organ of the United Nations Organisation which succeeded the Permanent Court of International Justice in 1946. Its seat is at The Hague and its function is to pass judgment on disputes between states. A state which has not accepted the courts jurisdiction cannot be sued without that states consent. Disputes are decided in accordance with international law, or (with agreement of parties) ex aequo et bono, i.e., on the foundation of a fair solution .
