statement of defence In civil procedure the defendant must usually serve a statement of defence on the plaintiff within 14 days of receiving the statement of claim, or of the expiration of the time limited for acknowledging service of the writ. Each allegation in the plaintiffs statement must be dealt with by, e.g., admission, traverse, confession and avoidance, objection in point of law. |
