set-off Pleading by way of defence to the whole or part of the plaintiffs claim. The defendant acknowledges the plaintiffs demand but sets up one which counterbalances it. Amount to be set off must have been due at the time of the issue of the writ. Nothing which is not a money claim may be set off. |
