restitution 1. Restoration to the rightful owner. The equitable doctrine of restitution refers to the case, e.g., of an infant who, having fraudulently obtained goods is ordered to restore his ill-gotten gains. 2. Writ restoring to a defendant who has appealed successfully against a judgment, that which he had lost following the execution of that judgment. |
