refreshing memory

Permission granted to a witness under examination to refer to a document so as to recall some matter. The document must generally have been made by the witness, or under his supervision, or checked by him, substantially at the time of occurrence of the event in question and must be handed to the opposite party for inspection, on request. A witness may refresh his memory from a note written by some other person as long as he adopts it as his own, particularly if he does so by signing it:
