extradition The delivery up of a person who has committed a crime in one country by the authorities of another country in which he has taken refuge, to the authorities of the country in which the crime was committed. No such proceedings can be taken unless an extradition treaty has been concluded with the foreign state concerned. No criminal can be extradited for a political offence.An analogous procedure applies to the Commonwealth countries and colonies. |
