drunkenness Intoxication. Except for offences requiring a specific intent self-induced intoxication resulting from drink or drugs is no defence to a criminal charge, See R.v. Majewski [1975] 3 W.L.R. 401 (assault); R.v. Howell [1974)2 All E.R. 806 (manslaughter). Drunkenness may be a constituent part of an offence: e.g. driving a car when under the influence of drink of drugs to such an extent as to be incapable of having proper control of the vehicle. |
