affidavit Written statement, sworn or affirmed (usually before a Commissioner for Oaths, in the name of the deponent (evidence given on affidavit). Statements on affidavit are not generally subjected to cross-examination. Affidavits used in interlocutory matters may contain certain hearsay evidence. |
