repeal

To rescind or revoke. Refers, e.g., to the express or implied abrogation of one statute by a later Act. The test of whether there. has been a repeal by implication by subsequent legislation is this: are the provisions of a later Act so inconsistent with, or repugnant to, the provisions of an earlier Act that the two cannot stand together ; West Ham Church Wardens v Fourth Result of repealing a statute is that it is treated as though it had never been enacted, save for actions concluded prior to repeal: Where a person is charged under a repealed Act and convicted, the conviction will be quashed.
