planning permission Formal consent of a local planning authority which must be sought by one who wishes to develop land. Permission may be granted unconditionally or subject to such conditions as the authority thinks fit, or may be refused. Planning inquiries should be held in public, subject to certain exemptions: see the Planning Inquiries. |
