fine

(1) A sum of money ordered to be paid to the Crown by an offender, as a punishment for his offence. (2) A money payment made by a feudal tenant to his lord; e.g. from a copyholder to the lord of the manor on being admitted to the copyhold estate. (3) A premium paid for the grant or renewal of a lease, or any foregift, payment, consideration or benefit in the nature of a premium.
